Benefits
Workplace benefits for non-union construction workers are few and far between. In an industry in which workers are vulnerable to accidents and injuries, only 46 percent of non-union construction workers have health insurance coverage. Among construction workers with a union, 82 percent have health care coverage.
Retirement security is out of reach for most residential construction workers. A defined-benefit pension plan is the foundation of a secure retirement, but the Pension and Welfare Benefits Administration reports that while 77 percent of union construction workers have a pension plan, only 35 percent of non-union construction workers have a pension plan.
